– Ballroom at I Street Photographer –

October is crazy season, ya’ll. I have weddings (yes, sometimes multiple) every weekend all over the state, and some things …like blogging… inevitably end up taking the back burner. This past October was no different! I was a Ballroom at I Street Photographer for this gorgeous couple and it could not have been any better. Chris and Andrea and their families were the kindest, most gracious hosts (I feel like I say that about all my clients; I’m blessed to work with wonderful people), the Ballroom absolutely sparkled as usual, Meg and Genoa and Cecilee and all the vendors did an absolutely breathtaking job on making the day so beautiful and smooth. Now scroll down and look at some of my favorite images from their wedding!

Every year I have a select few weddings who really – and I mean REALLY – embrace color. Give them all the pinks and corals and greens and (in this case) navy!! Julie & Neal’s gorgeous Sassafras Springs wedding was just the perfect example of how to use color (go ahead and peep that Color of the Year Living Coral action).

The day of the wedding was unexpectedly cold. I know what you’re thinking – Spring in the midwest NEVER gets warm outside and then cold and then warm and then cold. Never ever. But I’m here to tell you that’s exactly what happened here. Shocking, I know.

But Julie and Neal were troopers. I mean, they were more than willing to put up with the chilly wind and light drizzle to get some gorgeous portraits. They smiled literally all day. They wrapped themselves right up in the love and happiness that was all around them and didn’t even feel the cold! Well okay, maybe they felt a little cold. Especially when we had been outside shooting for 20 minutes in the wind. But they sure didn’t complain!!

Julie and Neal’s vendor team did an amazing job on everything from the florals to the cake to the place settings. Everybody worked together so beautifully, and I’m so happy to give some credit to all the great people on the team!

2019 Wedding Trends with Amanda Reed Weddings

It may not actually be possible to bring you this blog post without making my obsession with Amanda Reed Weddings’ work completely and utterly clear to the world. Guys, this powerhouse of a lady brings beauty and class to literally everything she touches AND she has the biggest heart for her clients and the wedding industry as a whole. As one of the top wedding planners in the Northwest Arkansas area Amanda has her finger right on the pulse of some of the most beautiful events we’re all drooling over, so let’s take a moment to talk about the trends she’s seeing emerge for 2019!

Amanda:

“What’s so fascinating about the trends I am seeing emerge for 2019 is that the only rule is – there are no rules! One giant source of inspiration is the two royal weddings last year, specifically Harry + Meghan.”

DECOR & COLOR

Pantone color of the year – living coral

A bright, sunny, pinky-orange. Do I anticipate this taking over every wedding? Not at all – but I see it as a conscious choice that couples will make in adding splashes of the hue throughout their design.
I see this coming forward a bit more in the fall when we can bring in tones of pumpkin and coriander to complement the coral.

But the flip side to this cheery hue – I am also seeing tons of bolder choices when it comes to wedding color… and that’s so exciting!

Weddings are getting moodier, edgier across the board. This is particularly interesting, since darker, sexier accents are in direct contrast with the romantic blush décor, soft textures, and bright photography that’s dominated the wedding scene in recent years.

Squid ink, emerald (my personal favorite), rich burgundies and midnight blue are everything right now—regardless of the season. Metallics aren’t going anywhere either, might see some iridescent details (like chargers and flatware) make an appearance at upcoming weddings.

With these rich colors will come rich, sumptuous fabrics like velvet (now an almost year-round fabric)

Statement lighting is the “it” rental – getting creative with lighting and thinking beyond traditional options like string lighting, finding inspiration in residential inspired lighting and even inspired by what’s hanging in our client’s home… uplighting gets an upgrade from more bespoke options like basket lanterns, neon installations (still hugely popular).

Balloons are the new flower walls!

FLORAL

Floral trends are going larger than life, floral walls, suspended, indoor trees, bold floral installations with plenty of royal wedding inspiration!

A reoccurring theme is bringing the inside out, the outdoors in – big trees inside cavernous spaces to bring the ceiling down, and lots of soft goods and furniture to make outdoor spaces feel cozier.
Greenery continues to be a classic go-to, with flowers and foliage becoming more organic and lush. Florals will be natural, whimsical and romantic. Natural grasses add a modern boho vibe, and long banquet tables with rows of low flowers add a lush, luxurious feel to guests’ dining experience.

Another exciting up-and-coming trend is real floral accessories – think living jewelry! This could look like supplementing (or replacing) customary bouquets – think gorgeous bib necklaces full of fresh blooms, succulent rings and cuffs, and elegant orchid drop earrings.

FOOD & DRINK

Brides and grooms continue to want gorgeous, cozy and intimate dinners with their guests via a buffet style, plated or family style meal, charcuterie boards take the place of waiters serving traditional hors d’oeuvres and canapés, grazing tables (usually featuring cheese, meats and fruits), are presented like a work of art.

As for drinks: Gin!!! This liquor is the perfect mixer and a mainstay in classics like the french 75 and negroni.

And for something really fun: high-low bites. Endless pairings and presentation possibilities mashup of fine dining and comfort food (like root beer floats in champagne flutes, mac and cheese cups topped with caviar).

CAKE

Cakes are another area strongly influenced by royal weddings:

  • Handpainted, metallic touches, personalized monograms,
  • Opulent, statement, museum-worthy wedding cakes
  • Warm bronze, soft gray, pale blue, and gold
  • Amazing array of textures we’re expecting – rippled icing, sculptural, Decorative finishes and show-stopping sugar flowers
  • Unexpected shapes, varying size tiers

INVITATIONS

Clients are loving monograms, custom illustrations of their venue, crests, and other sophisticated artwork.

They use the artwork in multiple ways (save the date, invitation, napkins, dance floor wrap) for a unifying narrative!

Popping up more and more is vellum, to create sheer paper accents in an assortment of ways — calligraphed for escort cards, bands that hold pieces of invitations together, an overlay for invitations, and as envelopes with beautiful hand-drawn artwork on the inside.

We should expect to see other unique mediums, like leather, wood, rough handmade papers, suede, acrylic, and even gold leafing.

UNIQUE CEREMONY SETUPS

Nontraditional ceremony arrangements are making their way to the front line (even for destination or elopements) – weddings “in the round” or a long, winding aisle, private vows followed by the party, or even a surprise ceremony or two in a bar!

BESPOKE: SIGNATURE CUSTOM EVERYTHING

Brides and grooms want to provide unique, personalized experiences for their guests, and all of these trends combine to make this happen!

  • Alternative engagement rings (opals, colored stones, sapphires), groomsmaids, best girls
  • Scenting your wedding – custom blended scents for each stage of the event, spritzed on invitations, infused in venue, given as party favors
  • Smoke bomb exits

It’s all about bespoke and attention to detail – let the your imagination soar and the magic begin. Today’s weddings are all about creating an event to remember—for both the couple and their guests.

In short? Personalization all the way.

Thank you so much Amanda Reed Weddings! I am so excited to see some of these trends and photograph them!
